Promotion & Retention (OSUE)
The OSSD Instructional Program has sequential planned instructions for all subject/grade levels. Minimum proficiency requirements are necessary for students to progress to the next higher level/grade. See OSSD BOT Policy IHE - Promotion and Retention.

Considerations for promotion are:
  1. Minimum numeric average of 65 in current subject/grade level;
  2. Potential for doing work in the next higher grade level;
  3. Attendance;
  4. Willingness to complete work;
  5. Promotion to grades 5-7 requires passing grades in three out of four major academic subjects (i.e. Mathematics, English, Social Studies, Science) with two of them being in Mathematics and English, mastery of the skills prescribed by the standards and frameworks adopted by MDE, and mastery of grade-level objectives as established by OSSD.

The final decision to promote or retain a student will be a joint decision made by the teacher and principal based on the considerations listed above. See OSSD BOT Policy IHE - Promotion and Retention.

Student’s academic progress will be communicated throughout the school year. Parents of students who are at risk of being retained will be notified in writing in March. The final decision to promote or retain a student will be a joint decision made by the teacher and principal based on the considerations listed above.
