OSSD Scores Among the Top in the State in Latest Accountability Results
OSSD SCORES AMONG THE TOP IN THE STATE IN LATEST ACCOUNTABILITY RESULTS
OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss (OSSD) -- The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) has released accountability grades for the 2024-2025 school year, and OSSD students scored among the top in the state, finishing second, and earned an “A” rating for the twelfth consecutive year.
In the 2024-2025 Accountability results approved by the Mississippi Board of Education on Thursday morning, OSSD is ranked as the #2 overall school district in the state of Mississippi with a score of 781. The district also was one of only two school districts in the state to score in the top ten in all subject areas for the second consecutive year.
Some of OSSD’s highlights include:
- OSSD ranked #2 overall in the state.
- OSSD rated A for the 12th consecutive year.
- OSSD is one of only two districts in the state to score in the top 10 in all subject areas for the second consecutive year.
- OSMS ranked #5 overall in the state.
- OSHS, OSMS, OSUE, MPES, and PPES all earned A ratings.
- OSSD ranked #6 overall in 3rd Grade Math with 77.9% proficiency.
- OSSD ranked #2 overall in 5th Grade Math with 75.7% proficiency.
- OSSD ranked #9 overall in 6th Grade Math with 75.8% proficiency.
- OSSD ranked #4 overall in 3rd Grade ELA with 72.3% proficiency.
- OSSD ranked #8 overall in 4th Grade ELA with 68.2% proficiency.
- OSSD ranked #5 overall in 5th Grade ELA with 75.1% proficiency.
- OSSD ranked #5 overall in 6th Grade ELA with 63.4% proficiency.
- OSSD ranked #2 overall in 7th Grade Math with 83.4% proficiency.
- OSSD ranked #6 overall in 8th Grade Math with 72.5% proficiency.
- OSSD ranked #2 overall in Algebra I with 91.9% proficiency.
- OSSD ranked #1 overall in 7th Grade ELA with 62.4% proficiency.
- OSSD ranked #2 overall in 8th Grade ELA with 66.2% proficiency.
- OSSD ranked #4 overall in English II with 69.5% proficiency.
- OSSD ranked #1 overall in 5th Grade Science with 87.7% proficiency.
- OSSD ranked #3 overall in 8th Grade Science with 78.5% proficiency.
- OSSD ranked #7 overall in Biology I with 83.3% proficiency.
- OSSD ranked #4 overall in US History with 88.3% proficiency.
OSSD Superintendent Michael Lindsey believes consistently high scores do not happen by accident. Lindsey says high scores reflect the dedication and commitment of the students, community, and staff to the academics, arts, and athletics.
“This is another incredible achievement for our students, staff, and community,” Lindsey says. “This kind of consistency doesn’t happen by accident, it’s proof that what we are doing is working and that The Greyhound Way is alive and strong in every classroom, every practice field, every stage, and every hallway across our district."
Mississippi’s accountability grades help teachers, school leaders, parents, and communities know how well they are serving their students and community. The accountability system is based on state and federal law and includes student proficiency and growth, ACT scores, graduation rates, participation in advanced coursework, and other state-tested area metrics.
