OSSD Proposes Update to K-4 Elementary Boundaries for 2026-2027

OSSD Proposes Update to K-4 Elementary Boundaries for 2026-2027
As part of our ongoing strategic planning process, OSSD has carefully reviewed enrollment trends and facility usage across our three elementary campuses. This review identified a significant imbalance in student populations among Oak Park, Pecan Park, and Magnolia Park. To address this, district and school leaders have developed a proposal to revise our elementary attendance boundaries to more evenly distribute students across all schools while maintaining high-quality learning environments, ensuring a smooth transition to a K-4 concept and minimizing the impact on families.

Why this is important now:

As we are all aware, the last 10 years has seen a significant population shift in our community to the east, with the construction of new neighborhoods and developments. Because of this, enrollment across our elementary schools has become increasingly imbalanced, with Magnolia Park nearing capacity. The proposed boundaries will rebalance our three elementary schools, allowing for a better learning environment for our students and staff.

How we developed our plan:

Rezoning is not something we take lightly, and months of planning went into developing the proposed changes. OSSD contracted a third party to analyze student growth, population and development trends, and various scenarios to create a plan that balances not only current enrollment, but projected enrollment through 2036. Our goal was to impact as few students as possible, while also creating a plan that will be effective for the next 10+ years.

How to know if you are impacted:

We have already reached out to the families of every K-4 student that will be impacted by the proposed boundary changes. If you have not received communication from us, the address we have on file for your student is not impacted. A map of the new boundaries can be found here.

What happens next:

We will submit our proposal for approval during the December Board of Trustees meeting on December 9, 2025. In the coming months, we will begin planning opportunities for students to tour their new school and meet their new administrators. We will also develop an appeal process for students with extenuating circumstances. This process will be available in the spring.

We truly value your partnership and understanding as we work to create the best possible learning conditions for all of our students. Thank you for your continued trust and support of OSSD. Together, we can ensure that every student is provided with the best possible learning environment.
