OSSD's Emergency Communication Procedures
Friday, May 10th, 2023 - 10:15 a.m.
OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss (OSSD) -- This morning, Magnolia Park Elementary conducted what OSSD refers to as a shelter-in-place as a result of a potential security concern near campus. The shelter-in-place has since been lifted, and students and staff have safely returned to their normal schedule.
Shelter-in-place means that all students and employees were asked to return to their classrooms and offices immediately to continue learning and keep our hallways clear of all traffic. In order to ensure everyone remains safe, no one is allowed to enter or leave the building during a shelter-in-place until a release is authorized. A shelter-in-place is not lifted until campus police can ensure the campus is secured for all students and staff members.
HOW OSSD WILL COMMUNICATE DURING AN EMERGENCY:
The safety and welfare of our students and staff remain the highest priority for OSSD. Please know that in the event of a shelter-in-place or lockdown, our district is working to address the situation as quickly as possible. Our first priority is to secure the campus to protect our students and staff, and then once the situation allows, to notify parents of the events. OSSD will always notify parents once we are able.
Parents are notified via SchoolMessenger, which uses the contact information provided during registration. If you do not receive these notifications from your student’s school, please contact the school to update your information.
Please remember to use caution when reading or posting information to social media schools as it can cause unnecessary panic from misinformation.
We thank you for your patience and understanding. Please remember that the safety of our students is our #1 priority.
