MICHAEL LINDSEY NAMED OSSD'S NEXT SUPERINTENDENT

OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss (OSSD) -- The OSSD Board of Trustees has named Michael Lindsey of Pass Christian School District to serve as Ocean Springs School District’s next superintendent following a 4-month search. Lindsey, who currently works as PCSD’s Assistant Superintendent, will take the helm of one of the state’s top school districts on June 1, 2023.

Lindsey joins the Greyhound family with over 27 years of experience in Mississippi public education, serving as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, and assistant superintendent throughout his accomplished career. Lindsey, a 22-year resident of the Gulf Coast, is thrilled to join the Greyhound family and lead one of the state’s highest-performing districts.

"It is an amazing honor to have the opportunity to lead the Ocean Springs School District," Lindsey says. "I am humbled and excited to join a community of educators, students, and families to build upon the district's impressive track record of achievement."

Lindsey, the former Gulfport High School Principal, and current Pass Christian School District Assistant Superintendent, is excited to join OSSD and continue his education career on the coast.

"I am committed to working closely with all stakeholders to continue to build on the existing foundation of excellence in academics, arts, and athletics," Lindsey says. "Together, we will create a culture of collaboration, creativity, and innovation that will empower our students and teachers to meet the mission of OSSD."

Prior to Pass Christian, Lindsey was Principal of Gulfport High School for 14 years. During his tenure as the Admirals high school principal, Lindsey was named 2014 Congressional District Administrator of the Year, and 2014 MDE Administrator of the Year for the state of Mississippi. Under his direction, Gulfport High was named as one of the state’s first School of Innovation and was a state leader in developing Career Academies and the Middle College concept. He has also served on MDE’s Accountability Task Force, Rtl Task Force, and Mississippi Commission of School Accreditation. Lindsey’s tenure as GHS principal also saw the construction of a new, state-of-the-art high school and career academy.

Former OSHS Principal and current OSSD BOT President, Dr. Vickie Tiblier, says Lindsey is the perfect fit for OSSD and the Greyhound community.

“We are very excited to have Mr. Lindsey joining the Greyhound family and have no doubt that he will fit right in with our tight-knit community and district,” Tiblier says. “His experience through the ranks of education will benefit our district at all levels and through his leadership, OSSD will continue to build on the long-standing tradition of excellence in academics, arts, and athletics.”

Lindsey holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi, where he also earned his Bachelor of Arts in Coaching and Sports Administration and Science Education. Lindsey and his wife of 28 years, Heather, have two children, Sara and Caroline. Sara is a graduate of Ole Miss and works as a U.S. History teacher. Caroline graduates high school this year and plans to attend Pearl River Community College in the fall to play softball. Lindsey has been a resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast for 22 years and enjoys playing golf and attending sporting events in his free time.

Lindsey join OSSD officially on June 1st, 2023. Oak Park Elementary School Principal, Dr. Jennifer Pope, will continue to serve as interim superintendent before returning to OPES Principal once Lindsey begins his tenure.
