OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss (OSSD) -- The Ocean Springs School District Board of Trustees voted on Friday to approve the recommendation of Dr. Jacob Dykes to become the next principal of Ocean Springs High School.

Dykes, a 2004 graduate of OSHS, will take the helm of one of Mississippi’s largest high schools in his 17th year with OSSD beginning July 1. Dykes previously worked as an assistant principal of OSHS for seven years prior to being named principal of Pecan Park Elementary in 2021.

Since joining OSSD as a teacher at Ocean Springs Middle School in 2008, Dykes has held a variety of roles within the district, including Biology teacher, 8th grade and varsity football coach, lead teacher, Agriculture Science teacher, assistant principal, and principal. He serves as the district representative for the Ocean Springs Education Foundation (OSEF) and can be heard as color commentator for the varsity football broadcasts.

Dykes holds an Educational Doctorate in Educational Leadership from The University of Southern Mississippi, a Specialist in K-12 Educational Leadership from The University of Mississippi, a Masters in Secondary Education from William Carey University, and a Bachelors in Biological Sciences, also from Southern Miss.

Outside of his educational career, Dykes is married to Brooke Dykes, a fellow graduate of OSHS, and together they have five sons: Zachary, Nicholas, Christopher, Alexander, and Benjamin. Dr. Dykes spends his free time coaching youth sports, fishing, camping, and enjoying the outdoors.
