Bond Construction Update: October 2025
Bond Construction Update: October 2025

Thanks to the overwhelming support from our community, OSSD is in the process of making much needed upgrades and improvements to our campuses! The 52 million dollar school bond initiative, which passed with an overwhelming vote of 87 percent in March, will be used to construct additional classrooms at two elementary schools, and construct a new middle school.
As part of our commitment to transparency throughout the bond process, we are excited to share an update on the project. Updates will continue to be provided throughout the length of the project. Please remember that all dates are tentative and are subject to change due to construction delays, etc.
Project Update Date: Tuesday, October 14, 2025
WHAT’S HAPPENING NOW:
Oak Park & Pecan Park Additions
Construction is underway on the building additions at Oak Park and Pecan Park. These additions will provide additional classrooms and allow for both schools to comfortably house kindergarten through fourth grade students.
- Oak Park: Dirt work has been completed and crews are installing foundation blocks around the perimeter of the addition. Next, the team will add plumbing and electrical rough-ins, and begin pouring the concrete slab. Weather permitting, this is expected to be completed by the end of October.
- Pecan Park: This project is much earlier in the construction phase due to the amount of site preparation required prior to construction. Contractors have completed site prep and are working to finalize prep of the dirt foundation. Crews have started removing excess dirt and preparing the area for the next phase of construction. The crew will start with foundation work towards the end of October.
New OSMS Designs
Design and planning is underway for the new Ocean Springs Middle School, which will be constructed on the site of the current Ocean Springs Upper Elementary. District leadership have met with architects, school administrators, and staff, to gather information on what will best meet the needs of students and staff.
New Elementary Boundary Lines
District leadership is working with an outside firm to study potential elementary school boundary adjustments to provide a balanced enrollment across all three elementary schools. Once boundary options are finalized, they will be presented to the Board of Trustees, district staff, and community for feedback. The district is anticipating these options to be available in December or January.
